Fort Campbell, KY – Campbell Crossing, the on-post housing community on Fort Campbell, recently hosted their annual Earth Day Extravaganza. The event was a huge success with soldiers, residents and families who came out to participate.
The event kicked off with the planting of a shade tree at the Werner Park Community Center, donated by the Fort Campbell Exchange.
There was an abundance of fun to be had during the event with educational activities, a DJ, free snacks, bounce houses and more.
“I can speak for the entire Campbell Crossing team when I say we enjoy bringing these fun and educational events to our residents,” said John Bredehoeft, project director for Campbell Crossing. “These events not only provide a few hours of fun for our residents, but it gives them the opportunity to get to know their community teams, neighbors, and on-post organizations.”
Educational components during the event included booths led by the Fort Campbell Directorate of Public Works (DPW) Environmental Division who educated residents on recycling, air quality and storm water, a rock painting station led by Mainscape, a worm dig, window safety coloring station, and our very own SYNERGY program representatives who helped teach residents about the importance of sustainability.
Additionally, we honored Month of the Military Child by handing out flower seed packets and biodegradable seed pots with a purple ribbon.
Rob Anderson, Qualified Recycling Program manager for DPW reached out to say, “thanks again for inviting us to the Campbell Crossing Earth Day event at Werner Park. There must have been 100+ kids and 90+ adults that came through my area. Your event was very impressive to say the least. Job well done!”
We want to thank each of our vendors who not only donated their time, but truly made this event a great success: Comcast, DJ Cricket, Girl Scouts, Mainscape, Waste Industries, and our Fort Campbell partners- Army Community Service, Armed Services YMCA, DPW Environmental Division, and the Exchange.
