Artist Information

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery is proud to host the exhibit “By Their Very Nature” by Tara Swalgren, during the May First Thursday Art Walk.

“I have always been interested in the innocent and peace mindset of animals. They are majestic, mysterious, and desired. They represent something that humans will never have. Yes, we are more advanced and our chances of survival are higher, but there is purity to animals that we don’t have. Animals don’t kill for revenge or other unnecessary means.”

“They enjoy one another’s company if permitted. They only act for survival. They do not over think the world around them. These are some of the many reasons I pursue animals as my subject matter. I find them captivating. However, I want to make the animals more desired, more captivating, and more mysterious. I integrate other natural elements onto these creatures.”

“They are fantastical yet they appear feasible. They don’t look so far off from the animals we see in our own lives. You might even believe that you have seen something like this before. I want my viewers to enjoy these creatures. Feel free to get lost in the color and texture. Indulge yourself, if only for a moment.”

Edward’s Steakhouse (107 Franklin Street)

Artist Information

Edward’s Steakhouse is proud host local photographer, Tony Centonze, during the May 2018 First Thursday Art Walk.

Tony Centonze received his first Canon SLR camera when he was still at Clarksville High School. That Canon AE-1 led to a lot of experimentation, wasted film, missed shots, and frustration.

When the Canon had technical issues, a Minolta X-700 came along and changed the game. A little picture-taking success led to enrollment in a mail order course (before the age of the internet) at the New York Institute of Photography, which sparked a life-long love affair with the possibilities and challenges of photography.

While traveling abroad in 2009, a decision was made to pursue photography and writing as a second career. A membership in Clarksville Friends of Photography developed connections with many of Clarksville’s best, including Greg Williamson.

Williamson helped Tony become a stringer at The Leaf-Chronicle in 2010, photographing events at first and then writing about them as well.

Since 2010, Tony has written hundreds of articles, covered thousands of events, and taken hundreds of thousands of photographs that have helped document this decade of unprecedented growth in Clarksville/Montgomery County.

Tony now runs CFA (Clarksville Freelance Associates). In his spare time, he still loves to travel (40 countries so far) and focus on more artistic photographs. Some of those can be seen here. Thousands more still sit in digital files, waiting for their chance to be printed and brought back to life.

Stop in, see the art, listen to Jackson Miller on the piano and enjoy the Thursday night special, 1/2 priced $7.00 appetizers and 2 for 1 draft drink specials.
