APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer head coach Naomi Kolarova has released the 2018 fall schedule, which will feature eight regular season home matches at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

The Govs will have a trio of exhibition contests, one against Western Kentucky at home August 4th, as well as road tune-ups at Mississippi Valley State and West Alabama before opening the regular season at home August 17th.

“I am looking forward to the exhibition games,” said Kolarova “Having not seen the OVC level of play, these three exhibition games give me a jump start on what to expect from our group early in the season. We will iron out any kinks and then work out way through non-conference play, aiming to improve every game.”

The Govs start the regular season of the Kolarova era at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field against Middle Tennessee, but the Governors home stay will be brief as they take to the road to face Evansville, August 19th. Austin Peay returns home August 24th to face the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M, before going on the longest road swing of the season facing Little Rock (August 31st), Mississippi State (September 2nd), and Mercer (September 7th) in successive matches.

Ohio Valley Conference play for the Austin Peay State University Governors begins September 14th with a short homestand against Belmont and Tennessee Tech (September 16th). Austin Peay went on the road last year to face the Bruins and Golden Eagles and dropped both matches by close deficits. The Governors will look for a bit of revenge as they open the conference season at home.

“I am excited for OVC games to kick off in mid-September,” Kolarova added. “conference games impact where we sit in the table, it is our only ticket to post season play, so we want to do well, set a stand of play for ourselves, and raise the bar on each result in conference.”

Austin Peay State University closes out the month of September with a pair of tough road matchups at SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois, before returning to home for a tough matchup with Jacksonville State, and Kolarova understands the importance of strong performances on the road.

“We need to work on playing better on the road,” said Kolarova. “Scrapping for goals and wins in close and overtime games. We need to stay strong mentally, no matter the score line.”

The closing stretch for the Govs features five matches in the month of October, including the Govs final home match of the season against rival Murray State, October 12th. The season finale will see the Govs on the road at UT Martin and Southeast Missouri in preparation for what Kolarova hopes to be the Govs’ third-straight Ohio Valley Conference Tournament appearance.

“The attitude and work ethic of our team this spring has been tremendous,” said Kolarova. “And we are excited for that positive culture to roll over into the fall. There is no doubt this team is committed to giving everything they have next year, and we are excited as a staff to lead that charge.”
