Construction technology students will complete the 32-credit hour program in nine months in a cohort style, meaning they progress through courses with the same group of students from beginning to completion.

At the end of the 9-month program, students will have earned seven credentials in the following areas: residential carpenter, rough carpenter, basic carpenter, residential roofer, carpenter helper, construction forms helper and residential site layout. HCC’s construction technology program is eligible for the state’s WorkReady Kentucky Scholarship which provides free tuition for specified areas of study to many Kentuckians.

This  program will offer a curriculum that could lead to positions with construction companies in residential and light commercial building development or allow graduates to work independently as a contractor.

According to HCC’s Construction Technology Program Coordinator Bob Smith, graduates will be able to build a house from the ground up through all phases of the building process and/or fix and remodel an existing home. “We have room for about 20 students in our first cohort and have already had several enroll,” explained Smith. “One excited thing about this program is that the students will be able to work with our local Habitat for Humanity on a home construction.”
