Lone Oak Baptist Church holds groundbreaking ceremony for new Church

Lone Oak Baptist ChurchCunningham, TN – On Sunday, May 20th, 2018 Lone Oak Baptist Church held a groundbreaking ceremony at their new Church site located just north of Montgomery Central High School on highway 48. The ceremony began at 1:30pm.

“We had a groundbreaking for our new facility today. The lord made this land available. Originally it was not for sale, did not have a for sale sign. We made some inquiries and the folks were good enough to talk to us about it,” said David Mackens, Pastor.

“God had blessed us in such a way that the day we bought the property we were able to pay for it. That put us where we are today, stated Mackens. “So now we are ready to start the new construction. Today, was just the symbolic start of it.”

The congregation has outgrown their current facility located at 4445 Louise Road, Cumberland Furnace, TN.

“We are in a church now that actually is supposed to hold 199 people and last week we had 600 attend two services, Deacon Randy Albert said. “So we knew we had to do something to reach the community in a bigger way.”

The new Church will be able to hold around 550 people.

The ceremony began with comments and a pray by Paster Mackens. Then Deacon Gus Crocket, Deacon Albert, and Rick Stevens with the Cumberland Baptist Association spoke to those in attendance.

“I am absolutely thrilled to see what’s happening here today. Not only are they building a building, but they are reaching out to this community,” stated Stevens.

“We’ve planned and tried for this for a long time. We have been able to raise money. The property is completely paid for. People in the church and the community have given,” stated Crockett. “Even people outside of our church have given donations.”

It’s a great opportunity for our church and for this side of the river. We plan to be a church the whole community can benefit from,” commented Crockett.

Then, Lone Oak Baptist Church leadership along with their oldest member Viola Daniels, age 104, took up shovels for the groundbreaking.

“I am very blessed and fortunate to be apart of this. I think GOD has his hand on everything were doing,” Albert stated.

“I loved the turn out. It’s was just great. So many of our church family plus friends from the community and some of our public officials are here today”, Pastor Mackens said after the event.

“We have some folks here today from the school system. We have a great relationship with the high school and elementary schools on this side of the river and they wanted to come out and celebrate with us.” stated Pastor Mackens.
