Two areas in need of repair will require extensive lane closures
Nashville, TN – This summer, Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will be working on two different areas of the downtown interstate loop that will require weekend lane closures and shutdowns.
The first area is the I-40 eastbound overpass at the I-65/I-40 split that was hit by a large water truck in late April.
Crews will need to close the I-65 northbound ramp to I-40 westbound for two weekends for repair work.
I-40 eastbound access from west of the bridge will be reduced to one lane during this time.
I-40 westbound traffic will not be impacted.

The tentative dates are as follows.
- Friday, June 22nd at 8:00pm through Monday, June 25th at 6:00am
- Friday, July 13th at 8:00pm through Monday, July 16th 6:00am
In the event of inclement weather, July 20th-23rd has been designated as the makeup weekend.
The second affected area is the I-40 bridge over 2nd Avenue, 4th Avenue, and Lafayette Street, which is scheduled for repairs. Crews will need to completely close I-40 from the I-65 split by the Adventure Science Center to the I-24 split at the Silliman Evans Bridge (the south loop) for three weekends.

The tentative closure dates are as follows.
- Friday, July 27th at 8:00pm through Monday, July 30th at 6:00am
- Friday, August 3rd at 8:00pm through Monday, August 6th at 6:00am
- Friday, August 10th at 8:00pm through Monday August 13th at 6:00am
In the event of inclement weather, August 24-27 has been designated as the makeup weekend.
This work is part of a $5.8 million resurfacing project on I-40 from Church Street to Arlington Avenue, which is already underway.
The I-40 eastbound overpass repairs at I-65/I-40 were incorporated into the I-40 resurfacing project contract. The cost for the repairs for these repairs is estimated at $750,000.
All closures are dependent on weather and project progress and are subject to change. TDOT will provide confirmation of the weekend work the Thursday prior to the tentative start.
