APSU Men’s Basketball add Jarrett Givens for 2018-19 Season

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Jarrett Givens, a rangy guard from Tempe, Arizona, will join the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Men’s Basketball team as a grad transfer from Adams State.

Givens spent two seasons at the Alamosa, Colorado institution, averaging 12.4 points on 45.7 percent shooting as a junior last season as Adams State advanced to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

The versatile wing hit 41.9 percent from beyond the arc and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line, finishing third in the league in three-pointers (72), ninth in three-pointers per game (2.25) and eighth in steals (43), ranking 159th across all Division II in steals and 111th in made three-pointers.

In his first season at Adams State, Givens averaged 12.3 points in an injury-shortened season, but displayed his trademark shooting with excellent percentages (47.8 percent from the floor, 41.9 percent from three, 86.1 percent from the charity stripe) in 15 contests after redshirting the previous year.

A prep standout at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, averaging 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals during a prep career that saw the Aztecs win three consecutive Arizona Class 6A state championships, with Givens earning 2014 All-State honorable mention honors. Championships seemed to follow Givens during his prep career; he also was a state track and field champion with Corona del Sol in 2014.

“He’s a kid that can shoot the ball, he’s proven that over his college career,” Matt Figger said. “He shoots at a high percentage, he’s long and athletic and should be able to guard multiple positions. He can come in and help immediately.”

Givens makes five newcomers into the fold this fall for the Govs, joining spring signees Isaiah Hart and Eli Abaev and fall additions Matheus Silveira and Antwuan Butler in the 2017-18 signing class.
