Chronicle – Greg Sand
The Framemaker proudly presents new work by Greg Sand. This exhibit is part of Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk on July 5th, 2018. An opening reception will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibit will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of July during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 10:00am to 5:00pm).

Greg Sand writes: “In ‘Chronicle’ I combine 1/2” and 1” square pieces that I have cut from found photographs to examine the fragmentation of memories. When recalling our childhood, we may remember the shoes our father always wore or the way our mother held her hands: a part represents the whole. Photographs function in a similar manner. They do not show a whole person or an entire life, but instead capture a single moment. These keepsakes help determine some of the pieces of memory that stick with us”.

“This series started as an exploration of the overwhelming scope of humanity and human history versus the insignificance of the individual. I wanted to find a visual representation of the 6,393 deaths that occur every hour in the world. I made the piece ‘Chronicle: Passing (6,393 Per Hour)’ to try to comprehend this staggering figure. I moved on to other subjects that became more about the nature of memory. The themes of death and loss are still present throughout the series – most blatantly in the images of funerary flowers and disembodied shadows – as the source photos I use often have a built-in sense of history and sadness”.

The Framemaker is located at the corner of North Second Street and Georgia Avenue, across from the Clarksville Academy.

Born ‘with a mustache” in upstate New York 1959, I am self a self-taught artist, referred to by some as painting in folk style. I don’t place myself in any category, sometimes my work is folk, impressionism, surreal, but always my interpretation of what’s in my head. My work varies in a wide range of mediums. Works on paper, paintings on wood and paper mache sculptures are a few styles that you will find the world of Michael Hooper.

A Kentucky native, Jennifer Lea Bowman is a self-taught contemporary non-objective abstract artist. Finding herself in Nashville, surrounded by a deeply artistic community, gave her the courage and inspiration to pursue a dream that she never thought possible…a lifestyle of creating art.

Her work continues to develop a strong following and has been shown on HGTV, as well as being included in the collections of Taylor York (Paramore), Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, Holly Williams (musician/daughter of Hank Jr.), other music legends, Universities, various financial institutions, and Professional athletes.

After 12 wonderful years as a Nashvillian, Jennifer made the decision to relocate back to her hometown. Continuing her passion for creativity, currently she is creating works in her studio located in downtown Hopkinsville, KY.

The DBO Gallery is the newest addition to the Clarksville Art Walk and includes live music and new and interesting forms of art. The DBO Gallery, located inside of the Regions Building @ 128 North Second Street, offers a new line-up of artists each month, so be sure to stop by for a one-of-a-kind experience!
