Clarksville, TN – After sharing the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golf Coach of the Year honor with her predecessor, Amy McCollum has had the interim tag removed and been named head coach of the Austin Peay State University women’s golf program.
McCollum and former head coach Sara Robson shared the Coach of the Year honor after a season which included eight top-five finishes and a win at the 2017 Buick Town and Country Invitational in Nashville.
When Robson stepped down following the fall season, McCollum took over and led the Govs to four of those top-fives as head coach, including a fourth-place finish at the 2018 OVC Women’s Golf Championships that saw the Govs end the season with a final-round 301—the best single-round score Austin Peay has posted in championship play.
A four-year letterman at Radford, McCollum joined the women’s golf program at Austin Peay in Fall 2013 after a year as volunteer assistant at her alma mater. She first served as a part-time assistant for the Govs while pursuing her master’s degree in health and human performance.
Upon completion of her master’s, McCollum moved into a joint role within the athletics department, assisting with the women’s golf program and as an academic coordinator before becoming the interim head coach after Robson’s transition into an administrative role.
During her Austin Peay tenure, McCollum has seen the program earn three straight top-five finishes in the OVC Championships and helped coach Jessica Cathey to a pair of first-team All-OVC seasons. She’s also been instrumental in the development of twins Taylor and Ashton Goodley, with Taylor earning All-Newcomer honors as a freshman in 2016 and first-team All-OVC recognition in 2017 and Ashton earning her first all-conference nod this season.
McCollum competed in 33 career tournaments for the Highlanders, earning the Women’s Golf Leadership Award as a senior. During her time at Radford, she also ran junior clinics, tournaments and corporate outings at Blacksburg Country Club.
“I’m thankful for this opportunity to move forward at Austin Peay,” McCollum said. “I’m grateful that the administration trusts me to lead the program into the future and I’m excited about where we are as a program. We have a really bright future here and I’m appreciative of the chance to be part of something special at Austin Peay.”
McCollum is the fifth head coach in Austin Peay women’s golf history and the second since the men and women’s programs went to separate coaching staffs in 2004-05.
