Instant Peay Play: AAU Tournament just one of many APSU involvements with local community

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Once again, Austin Peay State University (APSU) is the cornerstone of the City of Clarksville hosting the current Amateur Athletic Union’s Fourth-Grade National Championships and the 10-and-under DI & DII National Championships that are going on this week.

Over 50 AAU teams and 3,000 overall visitors will spend the week in Clarksville accounting for around $2.5 million for the local economy in hotel rooms, food, gas, shopping, ect., while also giving the city a chance to showcase its other venues and actives while they are here.

In fact, since 1999 Austin Peay’s involvement with the different AAU tournaments has help bring in over $28 million to the local economy during that stretch that maybe wouldn’t have come to Clarksville otherwise.

While Clarksville could probably land AAU events without APSU having a venue like the Dunn Center to anchor such an event makes it much easier, with a quality venue to host the tournament’s championship games and act as the base of operations for the tournament.

While this is one of the bigger events that Austin Peay will be involved with in the Clarksville community, it is far from the only events APSU will host or help be a part of.

There is hardly a week that goes by during the year that Austin Peay doesn’t host some occasion, meeting or event on campus.

Some are their own events, like athletic contests, or musical performances and recital’s, visiting speakers, workshops among others that it hosts. Some are outside the university events by local individuals, businesses, clubs and or organization’s that use various APSU facilities during the year.

From classrooms to meeting rooms, from lecture halls to auditoriums, from tennis courts to a basketball arena to even a football stadium Austin Peay probably has a venue that is small or large enough to hold any event that can be requested.

So, while you may see, hear or read about the AAU tournament this week, just remember that Austin Peay has its hand in activities from local, to area, to even national, year round and its impact to life and the going-ons in Clarksville much better for everyone.
