Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s soccer team will host Western Kentucky in an exhibition match, 7:00pm, Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at the Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
The match comes only a mere three days after preseason training started on Wednesday for the Govs.
For Austin Peay, it marks the first match, albeit unofficial, under new head coach Naomi Kolarova. Kolarova was announced as only the second head coach in program history last winter, taking over for former head coach Kelley Guth.
“We have a strong group of returning players as well as some great new additions. I expect us to compete in every game, in and out of conference,” said Kolarova. “We really look forward to the challenge of improving our conference results this year.”
The match promises to be a learning experience for Kolarova and her staff, as the entire roster will be used in an attempt to better gauge potential lineups and formations.
Even though this match is only a friendly, the Governors defeated the Hilltoppers last season by a 2-1 scoreline, with returning junior Shelby Stewart scoring the winning goal from a penalty kick.
“We want to be able to win the close games, put goals away, and we want to be a team that works for the entirety of the game,” said Kolarova. “No matter the score, no matter the place, no matter the weather or surface, we want to be that team in conference that other teams don’t want to play because we work so hard all over the field, for the entire game.”
Every home game for Austin Peay is free admission. There are two sets of bleachers that provide seating, but fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
