APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) head women’s tennis coach Ross Brown has announced the team’s schedule for the 2018-19 season.

Tennis plays two distinct seasons, with tournament play occurring in the fall and single dual matches taking place in the spring, each having their own importance.

“Our season starts off with our own fall invitational,” said Brown. “In the spring, we do some traveling by going to Florida and Georgia and then finish with our conference schedule in April.”

The women kick off the fall tournament season with their own tournament, the Austin Peay Fall Invitational, September 14th-15th.

One of either Claudia Yanes Garcia or Lidia Yanes Garcia have been in the top singles flight final the past three seasons, with each sister claiming one title.

The Govs will then do some traveling, with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Invitational being held in Los Angeles, CA from September 20th-23rd. The tournament features 32 of the best collegiate tennis players in the nation and are selected from each conference. Lidia has played in the prestigious tournament each of the past two seasons.

The Govs then head out again for the Southern Methodist University Invitational, October 5th-7th, in Dallas, TX before ending their fall slate at the Ohio Valley Regionals, October 11th-15th, in Chattanooga, TN.

The spring season gets underway with a pair of road matches against Tennessee rivals Middle Tennessee (January 19th) and Chattanooga (January 20th). The Govs open their home season against Western Kentucky, January 26th. APSU then remains at home for the next four matches, facing Carson-Newman (February 1st), Cumberland (February 5th), Central Arkansas (February 9th), and IUPUI (February 15th).

After the five-match homestand, the Govs then travel for their next four matches, starting with North Alabama, February 23rd. Austin Peay then takes on Kennesaw State (March 2nd) and Stetson University (March 4th), before facing the Blazers of Valdosta State (March 7th).

The Govs have just one more non-conference match at home, playing Dayton (March 13th) before opening Ohio Valley Conference play at home against Tennessee State (March 23rd).

The Govs continue their OVC slate with a trip to Jacksonville State, March 29th, before a home weekend consisting of Southeast Missouri (April 5th) and UT Martin (April 6th). APSU will head back on the road for two matches against Eastern Illinois, April 12th and SIU Edwardsville, April 13th.

Austin Peay’s final week of the regular season is massive, first traveling to Murray State, April 19th, to renew the rivalry with the Racers. The match promises to be a good one after the Govs defeated the Racers in last year’s OVC Semifinal. The Govs then host Belmont to close out the regular season, April 20th, with the OVC Tournament set to begin play, April 26th.
