Austin Peay State University Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country gets their season underway this Friday with the Southern Illinois-hosted Saluki Invite in Carbondale, Illinois.
The men’s race is scheduled to begin at roughly 5:30pm.
The Governors will run against familiar faces from Ohio Valley Conference schools scheduled to be in attendance, such as Southeast Missouri, SIU Edwardsville, and Murray State.
This Governors’ team is a veteran team with many runners back and ready to compete. The Austin Peay State University Govs will be led by senior Wesley Gray as he tries to continue where he left off in his NCAA Regional appearance in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last fall.
The juniors on this Governor squad might make up the team’s most interesting grouping. Hezron Kiptoo ran the fastest time for the Govs in the NCAA Regionals and finished among the team’s top-five performers in every race. Tyler Smith nearly scored in every race he ran in. Nash Young and Andrew Abel were limited last season due to injuries but are eager to bounce back in 2018.
Elliot Giles leads a sophomore class rapidly gaining ground on the teams upperclassmen. Daniel Davis, Thomas Porter and Wesley Martin also look to show off their capabilities and be right in the thick of the action in Carbondale.
