APSU Men's GolfMemphis, TN – A shortage of birdies over the first 36 holes leaves Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf with ground to make up heading into Tuesday’s final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club.

A tournament-low 18 birdies gave the Govs an extremely slim margin for error; although Austin Peay posted 114 pars, fourth-most in the tournament, the lack of low numbers made any bogey that much more harmful and left the Govs with a 607 (300-307) after 36 holes.

Sophomore Chase Korte is the leader in Austin Peay’s clubhouse; he shot a 150 (76-74) to sit in 30th, and was even-par on the front nine in both rounds.

Freshman Micah Knisley and sophomore Garrett Whitfield matched each other step for step, both shooting 74 in the first round and 77 in the second for a 151 aggregate. Whitfield was easily Austin Peay’s best performer on par-5 holes, averaging 4.62 strokes, and dropped in a team-high five birdies.

Juniors Austin Lancaster (76-79—155) and Alex Vegh (77-80—157) rounded out the Austin Peay lineup. Lancaster’s 25 pars were a team-high and seventh-most through the first 36 holes, while Vegh fired an even-par 3.00 average on par-3 holes.

Senior Sean Butscher made a case for extended action over his first 36 holes; as the individual, Butscher shot 153 (77-76), was one of two Govs to improve from Round One to Round Two and equaled Whitifield with five birdies.

Final-round action begins at 8:00am, Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 as the Austin Peay State University Govs will go off Hole No. 10 alongside Tennessee State and Belmont.
