Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is going to make the public aware of some of the scams that they receive daily. CPD knows there are an unlimited amounts of scams, but they are going to try and put out the ones where people have actually suffered a loss.

#1 A man was selling an item online. He was contacted by a potential buyer and sent a check for $1800 and told to cash the check, purchase $1370 dollars worth of Amazon gift cards and send the codes so they could be redeemed which he did. The check came back as bad.

Scams

#2 A woman was contacted by a man claiming to be from a loan company. After providing her account information, he deposited $2,000 in her account. She was told to put $500.00 on a Walmart gift card and send the code via a photo image.

She did as instructed, checked her account and there $1500 showing. When she checked her bank account the next day, she found a negative balance and that her account had been frozen due to the fake check.

#3 A man received a call telling him he had won 5 million dollars from Publisher Clearing House. But, he needed to send $1080 thru Western Union to an address in Jamaica to claim the money. He followed the instructions, but when he tried to contact the number from the suspect, it was no longer working.
