Kuppig and Morris defeated Fuka Nonoyama and Yada Vasupongchai of Central Arkansas 7-5 to claim the championship, as they were the only players for the Govs to win a main draw title.

There were still a host of Govs that won matches and placed well, however, starting with reigning Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Fabienne Schmidt. Schmidt took third place in the No. 2 singles draw with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Constandena Nicolaou of Houston.

Claudia Yanes Garcia also took third place in her singles draw at No. 3, besting Iulia Ivascu of Texas A&M in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 12-10).

Kuppig won her second final of the day at the No. 5 singles consolation final, defeating Andreea Stanescu of Georgia State in a thriller, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6). Kuppig’s doubles partner Morris also won two matches the day, as the freshman finished off an impressive showing by taking third at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Central Arkansas’s Mei Ishimura.

On the doubles side, Schmidt and Tatiana Lopez won their consolation final, winning against Stancescu and Daniela Ramirez of Georgia State, 6-1.

The Govs will look to build on this showing at the Ohio Valley Regionals, next Thursday in Chattanooga.
