Nashville Predators drop home opener to Calgary Flames 3-0

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators disappointed a sellout crowd at Bridgestone Arena tonight, losing to the Calgary Flames, 3-0.

Flames goaltender Mike Smith was a brick wall in net for Calgary, stopping 43 shots on goal, and earning the shutout.

Elias Lindholm got the Flames on the board with a goal on the power play in the first period for the 1-0 lead.  Sean Monahan then gave the Flames a 2-0 lead and Nashville was behind the eight ball after two periods.

Predators fans were hyped up for this opening tilt as Nashville raised the banners from their historic run last year.  Adding to their collection was the Western Conference, President’s Trophy and Central Division Champions banners during a pre-game ceremony.

The Predators got off to a hot start with a 2-0 record beating the New York Islanders and New York Rangers last week.  The momentum was strong heading into this week with a four game home stand.

During his post game press conference, head coach Peter Laviolette gave credit to the Calgary goalie Smith, but noted that his team didn’t take advantage of their opportunities, even though they outshot their opponent on the night.

Nashville is back in action Thursday night as the Winnipeg Jets invade the Music City for a 7:00pm puck drop.
