APSU’s Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert set for October 26th

Austin Peay State University (APSU)

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The 34th Annual Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert at Austin Peay State University (APSU) is going to be the greatest show ever! Guaranteed! The greatest show ever!

The concert opens with “The Greatest Show” and “Never Enough” from the movie “The Greatest Showman” and features Allison Steinquest and the Oddities on vocals.

Other movie music includes the theme from “Psycho” and the theme from “Jaws.”

There’s also classical music, including Samuel Barber’s “Adagio,” Gustav Mahler’s “Urlicht” from Symphony No. 2, featuring mezzo soprano Luisana Rivas, and Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Toccata in D Minor,” used in the 1962 film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Michael Burritt’s “Doomsday Machine,” Christopher Rouse’s “Bonham” (an homage to John Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s drummer) and “Workers Union” (featuring APSU faculty members James Fusik on saxophone and Stanley Yates on guitar) are exciting contemporary percussion ensemble pieces.

Nashville percussionists Chris Brooks and Chris Crockarell are likely to crash the party and do something entirely percussively inappropriate (garbage cans?).

The concert ends with a rousing rowdy arrangement of Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein.”

As usual, the ensemble will dress in costume, the hall will be festively decorated, there will be special lighting effects, and the communication department will provide live feed video on the back screen, giving the event an exciting rock concert vibe.
