APSU Men's GolfKennesaw, GA – Austin Peay State University (APSU)  Men’s Golf sophomore Chase Korte keeps hanging around the top of leaderboards.

The Govs were consistent across the board at Pinetree Country Club, shooting four-over 292s in both rounds for a 584 aggregate heading into the final round.

A 12-under par second round moved Western Kentucky from fourth to first at 570, followed by Wisconsin and host Kennesaw State at 572. Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State (588) rounded out the top-five.

But the story on Day One was Korte; a 141 (70-71) saw him stand as one of three players in the entire tournament to shoot under par in both rounds and tied him for fifth overall. The second-year Gov averaged 4.25 strokes on par-5 holes, second only to Western Kentucky’s Stuart Easton, the tournament leader. He led the Govs with eight birdies and also sank an eagle on the par-5 No. 16 in round two—Korte’s first eagle of the season and one of only nine recorded in the second round.

Freshman Micah Knisley also had a nice second round. After opening with a 75, Knisley shot a 71 in round two, including a blistering 33 on the back-nine that included three straight birdies on Holes No. 10-12 that helped move him up from 25th to 16th. At 3.95 strokes per hole, Knisley tied for the tournament low in par-4 scoring through 36 holes and led all Govs with 23 pars.

Sophomore Garrett Whitfield equaled Knisley with a 71 in the first round, but did most of his damage on the front nine, shooting a two-under 34; on Holes No. 3-13, Whitfield was one-over on the day and closed his second round with birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 to sit just outside the top-20 (71-76—147; t-21st).

Juniors Michael Busse and Austin Lancaster closed out the day for the Govs. Busse (76-76—152; t-42nd) second a big birdie on No. 7—which played as the hardest hole on the course over the first 36 holes—in the second round, while Lancaster (81-74—155; t-47th) rallied back in the second round, including an even-par 36 on the front nine.

Final-round action begins 7:10am (CT), Tuesday; the Govs will be paired with Jacksonville State and Mercer off Hole No. 1.
