Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s tennis team concludes its fall slate this weekend at the Steve Baras Fall Invitational, starting Friday, October 25th in Chattanooga Tennessee.
The Govs are coming off a very positive performance in Louisville last weekend, with two Govs playing for main draw championships.
Almantas Ozelis, the No. 2 ranked player in last season’s Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Rankings, advanced to the Flight A Singles Final, but fell narrowly to a player who has been ranked nationally.
Ozelis is also having to adjust to a new doubles partner and if last weekend were any indication, Ozelis and freshman Anton Damberg are going to be a formidable pair. The duo won three matches en route to playing in the Flight A Doubles Final, but came up just short.
Other Governors also performed well last weekend, with Chad Woodham winning the consolation portion of his singles bracket. Christian Edison and Jacob Lorino also picked up singles wins in the tournament’s “Red Draw.”
Play is set to begin tomorrow morning, but there is a weather factor. Play will be moved inside if the weather affects the outdoor courts and there will be a built-in break due to indoor court access. If moved inside, the Govs will not be able to resume play until the late evening hours.
