APSU Volleyball gets five set win over Eastern Kentucky

APSU Women's VolleyballRichmond, KY – Middle blocker Logan Carger led the way with 11 kills and six blocks and Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) volleyball team rallied and then held on for a five-set victory (19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 17-25, 15-11) against Eastern Kentucky, Saturday, at McBrayer Arena.

Austin Peay (23-4, 12-2 OVC) had to battle through a slow start that allowed Eastern Kentucky to win the first set wire-to-wire and grab a 10-5 lead in the second set.

The Governors would rally to take the lead and the win the second set before winning the third in near wire-to-wire fashion.

After losing the third set, Eastern Kentucky (4-22, 3-11) returned the favor in the fourth, winning wire-to-wire again as the Govs offense went cold.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Logan CargerBut the Colonels could not maintain their momentum and the Govs recovered theirs, Austin Peay posting seven kills and three blocks in the fifth frame to secure the match win.

Carger posted her fifth double-digit kill performance in her last seven matches, her 11-kill outing coming with .308 attack percentage. Outside hitters Jenna Panning and Brooke Moore each added 10 kills.

Cassie Knutson led Eastern Kentucky with a 14-kill effort. Kaylin Johnson and Lindsey Wilkins added 13-kill outings.

Austin Peay, which remained first in the league standings, continues its four-match regular-season ending road trip with a 6:00pm, Friday, November 9th contest at SIU Edwardsville.
