APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball team returns to the Dunn Center to open its home season, with a 7:00pm tip, Friday, November 9th against Christian Brothers.

The Governors (0-1) are coming off a road loss to Cincinnati, but hung with the Bearcats throughout the game and will have plenty of positives to take from it.

Kelen Kenol led the Govs in scoring with nine points off the bench and Nieja Crawford, who made some tremendous hustle plays on the night, also had eight points. Arielle Gonzalez-Varner paced the Govs with eight rebounds, as they actually outrebounded the Bearcats by two.

The Govs were hurt by turnovers off Cincinnati’s high press and a couple stretches of the game where the ball simply would not go in. Despite that, it was only a two point game at the end of the first quarter and the Govs won the third quarter, but just could not find that major run to really cut into the deficit.

Opponent Spotlight

The Buccaneers have not played a game yet and open their season against the Govs. Austin Peay will feel confident going into the game as they are 3-0 all-time against CBU, with all three wins coming in the Dunn over the previous two seasons. The Govs have also played the Bucs in the last two home openers, winning by an average margin of 21 points.

The Bucs will have to adjust to losing a lot of production, like the Govs, from last season. CBU lost three of its top four scorers last season, but sophomore Brynne Lytle is the leading returning scorer and rebounder for CBU.

Tickets

Courtside seating is still available for many APSU basketball games, both men and women. The courtside seating offering is unique to Austin Peay among Ohio Valley Conference schools. Contact Katie Locke in the ticket office for more information.
