Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s final home football contest against Murray State in the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border will also serve as Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm, Saturday, at Fortera Stadium.
The Govs will host more than 300 Gold Star family members who lost a loved one in combat. The families will be presented an Austin Peay football jersey, emblazoned with the fallen soldier’s name, by members of the football team in a ceremony at the conclusion of the game.
Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joe Maynard and his wife, Andrea, have generously donated 1,000 tickets to active duty and retired military members, which includes the members of the Gold Star families in attendance. An additional 150 military tickets will be available, as they are for each home football contest. Once all 1,150 tickets have been exhausted, a $5.00 general admission military ticket will be available. In order to claim any military tickets, fans must have their valid USPIC ID cards.
The Military Appreciation Day festivities will start with two Humvees from the 1BCT out of Fort Campbell on display in Tailgate Alley. Fans are encouraged to take photos with the military vehicles.
During pregame activities, soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division will help hold an oversized American Flag on the field for the playing of the National Anthem. At its conclusion, a flyover consisting of two Apache helicopters from 101CAB at Fort Campbell will fly directly over Fortera Stadium.
Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Sidney Brown – an APSU alumnus – will conduct the coin toss prior to kickoff.
Leaders of the Sigma Chi fraternity raised funds to have a ceremonial POW/MIA memorial seat dedicated in honor of all service members who made the greatest sacrifice on behalf of their country. The seat, located at the top of Row G in Fortera Stadium, will be dedicated during the game.
At halftime, the Austin Peay ROTC will swear in its new cadets on the field.
Coca-Cola will provide the first 1,000 military members to the concession stands with a complimentary tumbler, and their first refill will be free.
Seniors on the football team will be recognized on the field prior to kickoff, with the ceremony set to begin with 24:00 remaining on the pregame clock. Senior members of the band, dance and cheer teams will be recognized at the start of halftime.
The cost for the VIPeay End Zone Experience is $60.00 for the game against Murray State. Limited space is available for this experience.
