APSU Volleyball hosts OVC Volleyball Tournament, play Tennessee State Thursday

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – For the second straight year, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will host the Ohio Valley Conference’s Volleyball Championship. The 2018 edition will be held Thursday-Saturday at the Dunn Center.

The top-seeded Governors will face No. 8 seed Tennessee State in a 7:00pm, Thursday nightcap to the tourney’s opening day. Austin Peay won a four-set decision in Nashville in the regular-season’s only meeting with Tennessee State.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Kristen StuckerAustin Peay has won back-to-back OVC regular season titles for the first time in program history. The Govs clinched a share of the title with a win at SIU Edwardsville, Friday, then won it outright with a win at Eastern Illinois, Saturday.

The Govs finished 2018 with a 10-0 home record in regular-season play. They are the second APSU team to finish a regular-season home schedule unbeaten (1992, 13-0).

2018 APSU Volleyball - Cecily GableIn addition, they are one of 13 Division I teams with an active double-digit home win streak (13 games).

With its 25 wins in 2018, Austin Peay has recorded 20-plus wins in three consecutive seasons for the third time in program history. The Govs previously accomplished the feat in 1991-93 (70-33) and 2008-10 (70-28).

Thanks to those consecutive 20-win seasons, Austin Peay is 79-21 over the last three seasons. Those 79 wins are the fifth-most among Division I teams since 2016. The Govs are one of 28 teams to record 20 wins or more each of the last three seasons.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Ginny GerigSenior setter Kristen Stucker was named the OVC Setter of the Week, Monday, for the 21st and final time in her career. She paced APSU to an impressive .257 team attack percentage in wins at SIUE and Eastern Illinois.

She averaged 12.71 assists per set and also provided defensive help to the tune of 2.86 digs per set.

Senior outside hitter Cecily Gable finished the regular-season with a flourish, posting 21 kills and a Govs season-best .465 attack percentage at Eastern Illinois, Saturday. It was her second 20-kill outing of 2018.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Logan CargerJunior libero Ginny Gerig had 32 digs in the regular season’s final weekend, including a 20-dig effort at SIUE, Friday.

She led an APSU defense that held opponents to a .181 attack percentage last week.

Senior middle blocker Logan Carger closed the regular season in impressive fashion, leading APSU with 30 blocks (0.83/set) over the final nine matches while also averaging 2.44 kills per set and posting a team-best .372 attack percentage.
