Tennessee Titans Set For Division Clash

Tennessee TitansThe Titans earned their second consecutive win last week by defeating the New England Patriots 34-10 at Nissan Stadium, getting two touchdown passes from quarterback Marcus Mariota and two scores from running back Derrick Henry. The Titans offense scored on its first three possessions of the game, and the defense kept the Patriots scoreless in the second half.

Mariota completed 16 of 24 passes for 228 yards with no interceptions and a passer rating of 125.0. His touchdown passes to tight end Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis—both in the first quarter—helped build an early lead, and he added 21 rushing yards and a 21-yard reception in the contest.

In leading the Titans to victories over Dallas and New England in the past two weeks, Mariota has accounted for 542 combined passing, rushing and receiving yards. He has five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing), no interceptions and a 122.2 passer rating in that span.

Davis, the fifth-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, notched his second career 100-yard game, totaling 125 yards on seven catches against the Patriots.

In allowing 10 points to New England, the Titans’ top-ranked scoring defense improved their average to only 16.8 points allowed per game. They rank sixth in overall defense (328.0 opponent yards per game) and sixth in passing defense (228.2), and they are tied for 10th place in rushing defense (99.8).

The win put the Titans one game back in the AFC South race behind the 6-3 Houston Texans, who were on a bye last week. The 4-5 Colts trail the Titans by one game, with the Jacksonville Jaguars in fourth place in the division at 3-6.

The Titans enter this week with six consecutive wins in AFC South contests and seven wins in eight division contests since the start of the 2017 season. Four of their final seven games of 2018 are within the division, continuing next week, when they travel to Houston for a Monday night matchup with the Texans.

About the Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis ColtsLast week the Colts returned from their bye and hosted the Jaguars. They used three touchdown passes from Andrew Luck and three total touchdowns from tight end Eric Ebron (one rushing, two receiving) to win their third consecutive game.

This is the first season for the Colts under the leadership of head coach Frank Reich, who was named to the post in February. The former NFL quarterback spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles and helped the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in his last game with the club.

Luck, who was the first-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, missed all of last season due to an injury. In his first five years in the NFL, he passed for more than 4,000 yards three times and earned three Pro Bowl invitations.
