APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Back stateside, Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball closes out the 2018 Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic with a trip north to take on Ohio in Athens, 1:00pm (CT), Saturday, November 24th, 2018.

Terry Taylor and Jarrett Givens returned from Jamaica as All-Tournament honorees, while Taylor also picked up his first career OVC Player of the Week honor last week. Taylor averaged 19.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals, hitting 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the floor and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) at the line.

Austin Peay’s free-throw prowess has been evident of late. The Govs went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe against Campbell, believed to be their first perfect showing at the line since 1999-00 (against Belmont).

As a group, the Govs are hitting 90.0 percent (53-of-63) at the line their last three games, while senior Zach Glotta has hit 14 straight at the charity stripe dating back to last season.

About the Ohio Bobcats

After hitting at least 35 percent from beyond the arc in five of the last six seasons, the Bobcats are off to an atrocious start from deep this season, hitting just 20.9 percent from three through four games. Quite a bit of that has to do with the lack of Jordan Dartis, who started the season injured and has yet to play in 2018-19.

To say that Ohio has had success in Athens certainly undersells the point; the Bobcats are 488-156 (.758) at the Convocation Center since it opened in 1968, although one of those losses was to the Governors (see below).

Ohio is 27-4 in non-conference play at home since Saul Phillips took over in 2014-15, but two of those losses–to Belmont in November 2014 and to Morehead State in the College Basketball Invitational semifinals–were to Ohio Valley Conference squads.

Last Time Out Against Ohio

John Fraley sank two free-throws with 0.8 seconds left to lift the Govs to a 68-66 win at the Convocation Center, December 10th, 2009, to help Dave Loos earn his 320th win as an Ohio Valley Conference head coach, moving him past Cal Luther for most all-time.

The Govs snapped the Bobcats’ 30-game non-conference winning streak behind 22 points from Wesley Channels and a dozen each from Fraley and Anthony Campbell.

Keep An Eye On

A win would be Austin Peay’s second in as many years against a MAC school.

The Govs would finish the Jamaica Classic at 2-2 with a victory, the first time since 2010 Austin Peay would go .500 in an in-season tournament atmosphere.

Taylor leads the Ohio Valley Conference in both offensive (4.8) and defensive (6.8) rebounds per game.

Dartis and James Gollon, a key reserve a year ago, have yet to play this season for Ohio due to injuries.

Taylor is averaging 12.3 rebounds in his last nine contests. He’s fourth nationally with four double-doubles and seventh at 4.8 offensive rebounds per game.

Austin Peay’s reserves have outscored their opponents in each of the last three contests.
