The Govs used suffocating defense to hold the Norse to just 12 second-half points while shooting almost 90 percent from the free-throw line.

The Govs also boast the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week in Arielle Gonzalez-Varner. Gonzalez-Varner won the honor after her record-breaking performance against Mississippi Valley State where she scored 32 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the floor and grabbed 23 rebounds, both career highs.

The 23 total rebounds were a school record and she also is the first player in program history to have a known game with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds. Gonzalez-Varner is averaging a double-double while ranked second in the country in offensive rebounds per game.

About the Lipscomb Bisons

The Bisons (2-4) have lost their last three games, two to OVC opponents Jacksonville State and Murray State and the other game a loss at Cincinnati, who the Govs played back in their season-opener.

The Bisons have defended well, only giving up an average of 69 points a game while facing daunting teams such as Clemson and Cincinnati, but have struggled on the offensive end, only shooting 25 percent from the three-point line and averaging just 52.3 points per game.

Lipscomb is clearly a second-half team as the Bisons have scored 60 more points in the second half of their games this season. Taylor Clark leads the offense for the Bisons, averaging 11.3 points per game on 52.9 percent shooting from the field. The Govs will also have to key in on Emily Kmec, who overwhelmingly leads Lipscomb in three-pointers made and three-pointers attempted.

The Govs lead the all-time series by a 20-6 margin, including winning the last three. The most recent meeting came just last season, where the Govs traveled to Nashville for a 71-63 win that was led by a double-double from Keisha Gregory and 13 points from Brianah Ferby. Kmec, who the Govs will remember well, had a game-high 18 points in last season’s meeting with four three-pointers.
