APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball finally brings to a close its month-long road trip with a visit to Huntsville to take on Alabama A&M, 6:00pm, Saturday, December 1st.

This will finally end a road trip that began December 9th and has taken the Govs from Mississippi to Florida to Jamaica to Ohio and now to Alabama.

The 30-day, seven-game, four-state, two-country jaunt saw the Govs cover more than 5,000 miles.

The Governors overtime road win against Troy was their first non-conference overtime road victory since December 9th, 1982 against Tennessee State, prior to their ascent into the Ohio Valley Conference.

About the Alabama A&M Bulldogs

Alabama A&M hasn’t won a non-conference game since 2015-16, but the Govs won’t be taking the Bulldogs lightly; Alabama A&M is known for tough, aggressive basketball that will make the Govs battle for every loose ball and every inch of space in the paint.

That said, Alabama A&M is 0-7 on the season for a reason, and it starts with shooting. The Bulldogs’ 37.4 mark from the floor would not, in itself, be a disaster if they were not also allowing opponents to hit 52.1 percent from the field that ranks dead last among 351 Division I schools.

Another place where the Govs have a clear advantage is on the glass. Austin Peay’s complete dominance on the boards has waned slightly–the Govs are plus-1.1 in rebounding margin per game, down from the plus-6.4 it was at prior to the Ohio contest, but far outshining Alabama A&M’s minus-7.9 mark; the Bulldogs have been outrebounded by double-digits in four of seven games this season and have only outrebounded one opponent (Northwestern State) this year.

With Terry Taylor (averaging 9.7 rpg) and Chris Porter-Bunton (fresh off a career-high 15 boards), the Govs are poised to dominate on the glass.

Last Time Out Against Alabama A&M

The Govs cruised to a 20-point win in the Dec. 2, 2017 matchup against the Bulldogs behind 15 points from Steve Harris, an addition 14 from Chris Porter-Bunton and the rebounding prowess of Terry Taylor, who pulled down 13 boards, including five off the offensive glass.

Austin Peay limited Alabama A&M to 35.9 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc, and the Bulldogs hit just four shots from the floor in the first half–including just one over the final 14 minutes of the half.

APSU Notably

Senior Chris Porter-Bunton must average 14.0 points over his final 24 regular-season contests to reach 1,000 points in his career.

The Govs have never lost to a SWAC school, going 3-0 in those contests.

Glotta is 19 three-pointers away from breaking into the top-10 all-time.

A win would give Austin Peay back-to-back road nonconference wins for the first time since December 12th-15th, 2010 (at Saint Louis and Chattanooga).

Senior Steve Harris is averaging 12.0 points on 46.7 percent shooting over his last four games.

Due to injury, the Govs still have not played a single game this season with their entire 14-man roster available.

The Govs have already used four different lineup combinations this season; the Govs used only three different lineup combinations during all of 2017-18.
