Titans Enter Final Quarter of Season

Tennessee TitansThursday night marks the Titans’ second of four December home games. The first came last week, when they earned a come-from-behind, 26-22 victory over the New York Jets. The Titans trailed 16-0 in the first half and 22-13 in the fourth quarter before the comeback.

Marcus Mariota completed a go-ahead, 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Corey Davis with 36 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. It capped an 86-yard series that qualified as Mariota’s 12th game-winning drive in four NFL seasons, including playoffs. His eight game-winning drives since the beginning of the 2017 season are tied with Case Keenum’s total for the most in the NFL.

The Titans defense, which is ranked ninth in the NFL overall (340.9 yards per game allowed) and sixth in passing defense (221.2), did not allow the Jets offense to reach the end zone—New York’s lone touchdown came on an interception return.

Cornerback Malcolm Butler sealed the victory with an interception in the closing seconds.

The win helped the Titans keep pace in the AFC playoff race. The Houston Texans lead the AFC South with a 9-3 record, ahead of the Indianapolis Colts and Titans at 6-6 and the Jaguars at 4-8. The Titans are one of five AFC teams with a 7-5 or 6-6 record.

Following their matchup with the Jaguars, the Titans will travel to face the New York Giants (December 16th) before finishing the regular season at home against the Washington Redskins (Saturday, December 22nd) and the Colts (December 30th).

About the Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars HelmetThe Jaguars were at home last week and snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-0 shutout of the Colts. Two field goals by Josh Lambo provided the game’s only scoring, as the Jaguars defense, which ranks third overall in the NFL this season (315.6), forced two turnovers and limited the Colts to 265 total yards. The Jaguars began the season 3-1 before enduring the seven-game skid.

The Jaguars earned a 10-6 record and a division championship in 2017 under head coach Doug Marrone. In his first full season as the team’s head coach, Marrone led Jacksonville to its first division title since 1999 and its first playoff appearance since 2007.

Annual Toys For Tots Drive

Prior to this week’s game, fans are encouraged to participate in the annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Drive. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off with members of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve stationed outside of the gates at Nissan Stadium.

All toys collected during the drive will be used in the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program and distributed to children in Middle Tennessee.
