APSU Women's GolfClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) head women’s golf coach Amy McCollum has added a third signee to the Governors fall class, with Payton Elkins of Valdosta, GA, slated to don the red-and-white next fall.

Elkins made a little history for Lowndes High School, becoming the program’s first female golfer to sign with a Division I university.

It was a well-deserved achievement for the standout who helped get the program going three years ago—she helped guide the Vikings to a Region 1-7A championship, with Elkins qualifying as low medalist with a 76 at the Georgia High School State qualifier as a sophomore.

She was All-Tournament team at the Georgia State Tournament as a junior and In The Game Magazine’s Golfer of the Year in 2018.

In addition to her prep work, Elkins was a standout on the Southern Junior Golf Tour, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and the Georgia State Golf Association, where she picked up three wins in addition to numerous top-10 finishes. And if that weren’t enough, she also is an accomplished swimmer and basketball player.

“Payton is a hard-working and determined competitor,” McCollum said. “She’s long off the tee and has an innate ability to fight through adversity; that’s a great quality to have on and off the course, and we believe she’ll be a great addition to our squad.”

Elkins joins Chattanooga natives Zacori Hill and Hannah Holland in the Fall 2018 signing class for the Govs.
