Nashville Predators defeat the Philadelphia Flyers behind Juuse Saros shutout 4-0

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators dominated the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Bridgestone Arena behind the shutout performance of Juuse Saros in goal, 4-0.

This was the second shutout of the season for Saros and was only his second start in two weeks.  Saros stopped all 32 shots on goal tonight and was named the first star of the game.

The two teams played a back and forth first period with no scoring before the intermission.  That all changed in the second period.

Craig Smith took a Kevin Fiala pass at 2:03 of the second frame and planted the puck “top shelf” to beat Philadelphia goalie Michal Neuvirth for the 1-0 Predators lead.

Viktor Arvidsson, who had a monstrous game since returning from the injured list, took a sweet cross seam pass from Ryan Johansen for the easy tap in goal and Nashville took a 2-0 lead at 12:03 of the second.

It was Arvidsson again at 8:15 of the third period taking a Ryan Ellis pass on the rush to extend the Predators lead to 3-0.

Rocco Grimaldi got in on the action, taking a Zac Rinaldo pass and scoring on a wrist shot at 11:37 for the final score, 4-0.  It was Frostys for everyone!

Nashville wins it’s back to back series this week, having defeated the Washington Capitals yesterday 6-3 during a midday matinee in the nation’s capital.

The Predators dominated in the faceoff circle winning nearly 73% of the draw.  They outshot the Flyers 32-30.

Nashville seems to be getting back into a rhythm with the return of Arvidsson who was all over the ice tonight.  They’re still without Filip Forsberg who is still on injured reserve.

The Predators will take to the road, which hasn’t been too kind of late, when they travel to Detroit on Friday and square off against their old conference foe, the Red Wings.  Then it’s another back to back with a date with Montreal on Saturday.

Nashville is in second place of the Central Division of the Western Conference, just two points behind the Winnipeg Jets.
