City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – With colder weather forecast for the Clarksville area, social service agencies are focusing on emergency shelter solutions for homeless people in need.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Action Agency offers short-term daytime shelter, homeless services and counseling referrals at its Old Firehouse Day Shelter, 1498 Golf Club Lane, Clarksville.

Community Action also collaborates with area churches to operate Room in the Inn, an emergency winter shelter program that runs November through March. Clients are transported from the day shelter to the Room in the Inn site daily from 3:30pm-4:30pm.

The agency reports it has people signing up for Room in the Inn services Thursday night at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. St. Bethlehem United Methodist will host Room in the Inn on Friday night, and these and other churches are scheduled to provide the service on a rotating basis throughout the winter. A few nights remain open, mostly on Mondays, so churches who are able to help should call Community Action at 931.542.0381.

With temperatures hovering around freezing Thursday, and forecast to dip into the low 20s overnight, The Salvation Army, 210 Kraft Street, Clarksville, will implement its White Flag status, which means it will suspend its usual intake regulations and accept anyone who needs shelter when the temperature drops below 32 degrees.

The City of Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development, which helps coordinate resources and homeless services, continues to monitor the situation and work with Community Action, churches and the Salvation Army.
