National Weather Service (NWS)

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service says a major storm system will bring numerous showers and a few thunderstorms to Clarksville-Montgomery County as well as Middle Tennessee on Saturday, January 19th. Rainfall amounts of 1 to around 2 inches are likely with localized higher amounts possible. Minor flooding of small creeks, streams, low lying areas and other flood prone locations may occur.

Gusty winds can be expected Saturday into Sunday across the mid state. The greatest potential of gusts will be on Saturday morning where gusts could approach 40 mph.

Light snow expected across Clarksville-Montgomery County Saturday night.

An Arctic cold front will then bring much colder temperatures to the area Saturday night, changing rain quickly to snow Saturday night and ending across the Cumberland Plateau Region by the mid morning hours on Sunday.

Exact snow accumulations still remain somewhat uncertain, but the potential exists for a dusting of snowfall across the south up to a few tenths of an inch for locations north of I-40. The greatest potential for accumulating snowfall will be across the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau Region where around one half of an inch of snowfall accumulation is expected.

Light snow, along with any leftover standing water on area roadways, bridges and overpasses, could freeze and cause travel difficulties from Saturday evening into Sunday.

Very cold temperatures are expected on Monday morning, with lows dropping generally into the teens. Wind chills may fall to near or below zero in some areas.

Additional light snow may occur again Wednesday night into Thursday. Significant uncertainty remains concerning possible accumulation amounts as of this time.
