The Governors (0-2) fell in their home opener to Southern Utah last weekend in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Senior Almantas Ozelis led the Govs against the Thunderbirds, first teaming with freshman Anton Damberg to win at No. 1 doubles.

Ozelis easily won in straight-sets at No. 1 singles, defeating Keonho Shin, 6-3, 6-4, but his stellar play was not able to lift the Govs to their first victory.

About the Lipscomb Bisons

The Bisons (0-1) lost their season-opener, albeit to a tough opponent in Louisville. The Bisons have given the Govs trouble in past seasons, as the Govs have not defeated Lipscomb since the 2013-14 season.

The Govs only met up with the Bisons once in the fall, with the doubles team of Jacob Lorino and Timo Kiesslich narrowly losing out to Victor Chaw and Pablo Caffarena in a tiebreaker in the second round of the Doubles draw at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.

Ozelis and Chad Woodham have had decent results against the Bisons in past years. Both Ozelis and Woodham won in singles in the dual match in the 2016-17 season and Ozelis also won a doubles match in the 2015-16 meeting.
