APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball team faces its second consecutive test against a team atop the Ohio Valley Conference standings, 8:00pm, Thursday, January 31st against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The Governors (9-10, 4-4 OVC) are coming off a two-game stretch at home last weekend, splitting with Tennessee State and Belmont.

The Govs comfortably defeated TSU behind Keisha Gregory’s fourth career double-double, allowing a season-best 47 points. Gregory finished with 23 points, two off her season-high, and 11 rebounds, the first time she grabbed more than 10 rebounds in over a year.

The APSU Govs found it harder in the following game against the Bruins, who came into the Dunn winners of their last five games and were tied for first in the OVC with Tennessee Tech.

With the Govs down by as many as 15 in the third quarter, Nieja Crawford led a charge to close the quarter, making two three-pointers that sparked a 14-4 Govs run. The game looked to be up for grabs as it was just a four-point deficit for the Govs heading into the fourth, but the Bruins fought off Crawford’s career-high 19 points and opened the fourth period on an 11-0 run, effectively sealing the game.

The loss was the first for the APSU Govs at home in conference play and they are now tied for sixth with SIU Edwardsville at 4-4 in OVC play.

About the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles

The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (15-4, 7-1 OVC) won on the road against a winless Eastern Kentucky team their last time out to maintain a share of first place in the OVC standings. After winning their first six conference games, including a 77-72 win at Belmont, the Golden Eagles were blown out last Thursday by Morehead State, before rebounding at EKU two days later.

The Golden Eagles are a perfect 8-0 at home this season; averaging eight more points per game at home than in road or neutral site contests.

Tennessee Tech is a team that does not have any glaring weakness when looking at the statistics from this season. They shoot the ball well in all areas, from layups to three-pointers to free throws and rank in the top five in the OVC in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, and rebounding margin.

Jordan Brock is the clear leader of the offense for Tennessee Tech. Brock, only a sophomore, is already one of the OVC’s premier three-point shooters, ranking in the top three in three-pointers made, attempted, and three-point percentage. In OVC play, she is averaging almost 18 points per game, good for third in the OVC, while shooting a blistering 51.9 percent from behind the arc.

Anacia Wilkinson is also one of the league’s most efficient players, as she leads the OVC in field goal percentage in conference play with a 55.2 percent mark, while also leading the OVC in blocked shots.

The Govs are only 20-62 against the Golden Eagles all-time, but have won four of the last six meetings, including a 1-1 split last season. In the game in Cookeville last season, the Govs fell by four points, but Michaela Campbell poured in a career-high 19 points to go along with three three-pointers in the contest.
