Nashville Predators end home losing streak by defeating the Arizona Coyotes 5-2

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators broke a three game home losing streak tonight by downing the visiting Arizona Coyotes, 5-2.  Nashville had to come from behind to do it.

Vinnie Hinostroza took a pass from Alex Goligoski in the slot and flipped a shot over the shoulder of Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne at 16:59 of the opening frame, for the early 1-0 lead.  This after the Predators dominated play from the outset but couldn’t score.

The period ended with the Coyotes taking the lead to the locker room, but you just knew that Nashville would storm out into the second period and take charge.

And they did!

Just 2:58 into the second period, Craig Smith grabbed a rebound right at the feet of Arizona goalie Calvin Pickard and slid the puck home to tie the contest, 1-1.

Filip Forsberg then did what Filip Forsberg does at 7:45 of the period and scored on a wrist shot to put the Predators ahead, 2-1.  The shot from the top of the circle caught Pickard by surprise and the Predators scored on the power play, something they haven’t been that good at all season.

Nashville’s power play ranks amongst the lowest in the league.

Then at 13:37 of the second period, Ryan Ellis put his name in the hat when he skated to the front of the net and chipped in a rebound and suddenly the Predators had a two goal lead, 3-1.  That’s how the second period would end.

Arizona came out of the locker room for the third period on a mission.  Stepping up the offensive pressure, you could just feel that it was a matter of time before they put a marker on the board.

At 4:19, Derek Stepan skated around the Nashville net and backhanded a wraparound shot that beat Rinne and the Coyotes would pull to within a goal, 3-2.

But the Predators were determined on this night.  In the back of their mind they new they had to break the home losing streak and tonight would be the night.

Calle Jarnkrok would put this one away at 13:41 when he snapped a wicked shot into the net and Nashville would take a 4-2 lead.  The final score of the night would be an empty netter from THE captain, Roman Josi and Smashville would go home victorious on this night.

The Predators hope to extract some revenge from the Dallas Stars on Thursday night when the boys from Texas return to the Bridgestone Arena at 7pm.
