APSU Sports Information

APSU Men's BasketballBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) sophomore Terry Taylor has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball co-Player of the Week, his fourth weekly honor from the league office this season.

2018-19 APSU Men's Basketball - Terry Taylor

Taylor averaged 33.5 points and 13.0 rebounds for the week, hitting 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor, 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from three and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) at the charity stripe.

He shares this week award with Murray State’s Ja Morant; Taylor had 25 points and eight boards in Thursday’s ESPN2 matchup with the Racers, hitting 10-of-17 from the floor.

The Bowling Green Kentucky native put his stamp on the week with a 42-point, 18-rebound effort Saturday at Morehead State. The 42 points represents the most by an OVC player this season and the first 40-point night by a Governor since Derek Wright in a triple-overtime thriller against Southeast Missouri, January 29th, 2008.

The 18 rebounds were the most by any Division I player in 2018-19 and also were a career-best for Taylor, who posted his season’s ninth double-double. Just for kicks, he set the Johnson Arena single-game scoring record by a league opponent and the first point he scored on the evening was his 500th of the season; he’s one of two players in program history to score 500 points in each of his first two seasons, joining James “Fly” Williams.

Taylor is the fourth different OVC player to score 40 points in a single game this season, joining Morant, Eastern Kentucky’s Nick Mayo and Belmont’s Dylan Windler. It’s the first time since the 2002-03 season that multiple OVC players have scored 40-plus in a single game in the same season.

This is Taylor’s fourth career OVC Player of the Week honor; he also brought home the November 19th, December 17th and February 4th awards. He’s Austin Peay’s first four-time Player of the Week honoree since Wesley Channels (2009-10).

Taylor and the Govs are back in the Dunn Center this week to host Southeast Missouri (February 21st) and UT Martin (February 23rd).
