Clarksville Parks and Recreation offers free Tree Seedlings for Arbor Day

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Free tree seedlings will be offered by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Friday, March 1st at the Smith-Trahern Mansion in celebration of Arbor Day.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Arbor Day Foundation and designation as a Tree City USA, coupled with local support, seedlings of 10 species will be given away.

Species include Roughleaf Dogwoods, American Hazelnut, Red Mulberry, Southern Crabapple, Shagbark Hickory, Northern Red Oak, Nuttall Oak, Shumard Oak, Native Sweet Pecan and Redbuds. Limited to 10 tree seedlings per person.

The Arbor Day Foundation exists to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. Tree City USA has been a program of the Arbor Day Foundation since 1976.

To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards: a legally constituted tree board, a community tree ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program supported by a minimum of $2.00 per capita, and an Arbor Day proclamation and public tree planting ceremony. Communities must reapply for the Tree City USA designation annually.
