APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – Coming off a 2-0 weekend that included a shutout and a 16-inning, complete-game performance, Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball senior left-hander Morgan Rackel was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office, Monday afternoon.

2019 APSU Softball - Morgan Rackel

Rackel, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, closed her weekend in the circle with a school-record 16-inning, 2-1, complete-game victory versus McNeese, throwing 217 total pitches (154 for strikes) over the three-hour, 56-minute contest – the longest game played in program history, both in innings and in time.

Rackel would finish the game by getting the final 45 outs without giving up a run after surrendering a score in the bottom of the second inning. She also totaled a career-high 16 strikeouts in the contest – eight of which ended innings — including the final out of the game.

This came less than 24 hours after Rackel had shutout McNeese, 4-0, on three hits (all singles) while striking out nine.

Overall, Rackel had a 0.30 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 23 innings while holding McNeese to a .198 team batting average and giving up just one run to the Cowgirls over that span.
This marks the 14th time overall a Governor pitcher has earned the distinction of being named OVC Pitcher of the Week since the OVC started the honor in the 1994 season.

Rackel becomes the first pitcher in APSU history to win the award three times in a career.
