APSU SoftballMurfreesboro, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team got two home runs each from Danielle Liermann and Drew Dudley, Wednesday night, to power its way to a 10-6 victory against Middle Tennessee at Blue Raider Field.

The two home runs by Liermann and Dudley mark the first time in school history that Austin Peay (9-6) had gotten multiple home run games from two players in the same game.

And it didn’t take long for the Govs to start their home-run derby, with Liermann hitting her first in the top of the first inning to get the Govs on the board.

Liermann finished the game with a team-high three hits and four RBI.

Dudley followed an inning later to make it 2-0, with Liermann doubling that with a two-run shot in the top of the third inning for a 4-0 lead.

Middle Tennessee (7-9) cut the Govs lead to 4-3 after five innings of play, but Dudley led off the top of the seventh with her second home run of the game to give the Govs a two-run advantage, 5-3.

That home run also seemed to open the flood gates for Austin Peay as it sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning, scoring a total of six runs, to extend its lead to 10-3 before MTSU added three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning for the 10-6 final.

Morgan Rackel (6-3) picked up the complete-game win, giving up 11 hits, two walks and striking out six.

APSU Head Coach Kassie Stanfill Statements

On their hitting approach
“Overall as a team we came out swinging tonight. The past couple of days we’ve talked about being aggressive and attacking early and they came out doing that and it paid off.”

On beating the team where you got coaching start
“It’s fun coming back for multiple reasons. I was here for a few years, so I know the people in the stands, but it’s even sweeter when you can walk away with a ‘W’.”

On win being a springboard into spring break road trip
“A win like that gets you excited and makes you eager to get some more games under your belt. We also know we have to take them one game at a time, but this win tonight is a good way to head into the trip.”
