APSU SoftballConway, SC – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team got three hits from Danielle Liermann, Sunday morning at St. John Stadium in the final day of the Chanticleer Showdown, but it wasn’t enough as the Governors came up just short to Radford, 4-3.

Liermann finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate, including a two-run homer, and a walk to finish the Chanticleer Showdown with 10 overall hits – five of which were home runs – and 10 RBIs.

Radford (6-9) would start the days scoring with a run in the top of the third inning, but Austin Peay responded with a Carly Mattson home run in the bottom of the frame.

Mattson would add a double later in the game to finish with two hits.

The Highlanders would retake the lead in the top of the fifth, 2-1, but APSU answered right back in the bottom of the frame with Liermann’s two-run homer to take its only lead of the game, 3-2.

But a Radford two-run triple that sliced just inside the line in right field in the sixth inning proved to be the difference maker, as the Highlanders retook the lead for good, 4-3.
