Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk
Clarksville, TN – Produced by The Downtown Clarksville Association, Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour spanning a 5-block radius that combines visual art, live music, engaging events and more in the heart of Downtown Clarksville.
With 10+ venues, bars and businesses participating each month, the First Thursday Art Walk in Clarksville is the ultimate opportunity to savor and support local creative talent.
The March Art Walk will be held March 7th, 2019 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the shops and galleries on Public Square, Franklin Street, and Strawberry Alley.
The participating businesses are listed below as well as a description of the work they will be exhibiting and services they will be offering during the event.
Downtown Artists Co-op (96 Franklin Street)
The DAC is an association of talented local artists and interested patrons dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area.
Our objectives are to sponsor art exhibitions of work by Co-op members and regional artists, to provide continuing support for the Co-op and its membership through the sale of art work, to encourage arts education with outreach programs and scholarship fundraisers, and to develop membership services which directly support the arts community.

“I N F I N I T Y” – Art Exhibit by Hope Brill & D.C. Thomas

Hope Brill and D.C.Thomas are happy to announce the upcoming art exhibit titled “I N F I N I T Y”, which will be on view at the Downtown Artists’ Cooperative & Gallery throughout the month of March, 2019.
Close friends and fellow artists, both Hope Brill and D.C. Thomas are attempting to showcase original artworks inspired by the infinite variations of color, shapes and forms which could be achieved through a multitude of techniques with the help of brushes, knives, paints and household items.
Most of the compositions in this art exhibit are rendered on large surfaces, primed panels and canvases – meant to engage the viewer into contemplating the artists’ intentions.
This is Hope Brill’s first solo exhibit, having invited D.C. Thomas to take part in her endeavors with her latest works.
Hope Brill is featuring celebratory artworks on 4ft x 4ft wood panels depicting thought provoking and emotional context of a woman’s journey through life.
Several of these paintings have been completed through hydro techniques, while others through traditional methods, using brushes and knives. Hope Brill has focused on successfully transitioning industrial hydro techniques into the art world through large contemporary and abstract pieces that involved great endeavors.

The live music for this event will be provided by the “A Smooth Foursome”.
“A Smooth Foursome” is a group of saxophonists from Murray State University. Gavin Hayes, a junior with music education major on soprano saxophone; Logan Bogard, a sophomore music business major on alto saxophone; Liam Newman, a freshman music education major on tenor saxophone; and Kendra Chaney, a freshman music education major on baritone saxophone.

New Work: Cindy Marsh
The Framemaker proudly presents new work by Clarksville, Tennessee artist Cindy Marsh. This exhibit is part of Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk on March 7th, 2019. An opening reception will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibit will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of March during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 10:00am to 5:00pm).
Cindy Marsh, Austin Peay State University Professor, Printmaking received her MFA, Rochester Institute of Technology.
Selected exhibitions include Production Not Reproduction, The Center for Book Arts, New York, NY; Projects from the Goldsmith Press and Rare Type Collection, Nashville International Airport, Nashville, Tennessee; The 50 Show, Art Directors Club of Los Angeles, California.

For those who enjoy the visual arts, the Peg Harvill Gallery, located just beyond the lobby, hosts twelve shows annually featuring locally and nationally known artisans. Shows generally open the first Thursday of each month for our First Thursday Art Walk.

Edward’s Steakhouse is proud host local artist, Samantha Stoffregen, during the March 2019 First Thursday Art Walk.
After serving in the U.S. Army as a photographer and public relations specialist, Samantha Stoffregen now calls Clarksville, TN home with her husband, stepson, and motley crew of rescue dogs, cats and horse. Her passion for photography grew with each mission or training assignment that separated her from her family. Photos were her source of comfort when hardships arose. That emotional connection is what drives her each time she picks up her camera. Whether photographing families or hanging out at the barn and capturing a horse and rider, every image is charged with emotion.
“I remember photos everywhere in my home growing up: on the walls, in scrapbook albums and overflowing from boxes on the bottom shelf of the storage closet, which is how my home is now and what I want for you. Photos don’t just hold on to a fleeting moment in time, they grab a snippet of emotion to seal in with it. That emotional connection is what I want each person to develop when I take their photo. My passion is capturing those intimate, candid moments that are unique to your family, or the bond developed between a horse and rider after months of hard work. When you look back on your wedding photos, I want you to feel not just the bliss of the day, but the hope and excitement of a new future with your partner, the quiet butterflies you felt as each minute passed by till you said ‘I do.” As someone who has worn her photos thin from looking at them so many times, I understand the comfort a photo can provide. When a beloved pet crosses that Rainbow Bridge, those photos will be a source of comfort and one of the only things left behind, or when your family is separated by yet another training cycle, having photos to show your kids will help ease the ache in their chest. Photos aren’t just meant to be taken and forgotten. Display them, love them, laugh about them. Let me help you capture all of it.”

The Customs House Museum (200 S. 2nd Street)
The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is Tennessee’s second largest general interest museum. It features fine art, history, and children’s exhibits.

H.N. James: The Urban Goddesses

Tennessee portrait photographer, H.N. James exhibits a series of work interpreting figures from mythology. The artist states of her work “We live in a time when old ways of viewing women are being challenged and I am pleased to be a part of that conversation as a living woman artist.”
Bold Strokes: The Art of Sandy Spain
March 4th – April 28th | Harvill Gallery
This Nashville artist working in acrylics is known for her strong color palette. Ms. Spain has works in private collections throughout the United States, Switzerland, Norway, Canada, Austria, and Germany.
Lynn Garwood: My View

My View features a Wisconsin artist who paints everyday objects. In 2009, Lynn Garwood closed down her sign painting business to concentrate on being an artist. Lynn’s paint of choice is acrylics. Under every painting, she paints a positive word. These words can be seen and at other times are completely painted over to be hidden.
Twentieth Anniversary of the Tornado

This retrospective showcases artifacts and local stories related to Clarksville’s 1999 Tornado. The exhibition is sponsored in part by Legends Bank.

A local teacher & sculptor working in wood and limestone brings his new pieces to the Crouch Gallery. Included in the show are Andrew’s figurative pieces, abstract benches, and wall-mounted forms.
First Responders
February 21st – May 12th | Memory Lane
First Responders includes artifacts and photographs from the Museum’s Collections related to Clarksville’s emergency responders, including the 1925 fire engine that was used by the Clarksville Fire Department.
15 Over 50: A Women’s History Month Exhibition
March 7th – June 9th | Kimbrough Gallery
This exhibition features 15 contemporary women artists from across the country all over age 50. Works include photography, painting, and sculpture done in a variety of styles.
