APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – Coming off a 3-0 weekend that included a shutout and a victory over Big Ten Conference member Michigan State, Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball senior left-hander Morgan Rackel was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office, Monday afternoon.

It is the second time this season Rackel has been so honored by the conference and the fourth time overall in her career – the most by a pitcher in program history.

Rackel, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, opened her week with a 4-1, three-hit, 10-strikeout complete-game victory versus Miami – carrying a shutout into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Along the way in that contest, Rackel became just the fifth pitcher in program history to reach 300 career strikeouts.

She would follow that with a 6-0 shutout victory versus Dayton — her fourth shutout of the season – giving up five hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Rackel would wrap-up the weekend with 5-2 win over Michigan State, holding the Spartans to five hits and two runs – only one earned – while walking three and striking out six.

Overall, Rackel had a 0.67 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 21 innings while holding opponents to a .178 team batting average, a WHIP of 0.81 and a walk-to-strikeout ratio of 5.75-to-1.
This marks the 15th time overall a Governor pitcher has earned the distinction of being named OVC Pitcher of the Week since the OVC started the honor in the 1994 season.
