APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball team’s five-game in six-day homestand continues with a crucial Ohio Valley Conference series against league-leading Belmont, Friday-Sunday, on Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The Governors saw their seven-game home win streak halted by Murray State, Wednesday.

Tennessee Vols loses to Purdue in Overtime in Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsLouisville, KY – The Tennessee Vols impressive season came to an end Thursday night, falling in the Sweet Sixteen to Purdue in overtime, 99-94, at the KFC Yum! Center.
 
After facing an 18-point deficit at the 16:19 mark and with all the momentum in Purdue’s favor, the Vols stormed back with a 19-2 run to take their first lead since opening minutes of the game. A deep 3-pointer from Admiral Schofield to make it a 70-67 game capped the run.
 
With five minutes left in regulation, both teams were knotted at 70-70.

APSU Beach Volleyball splits Doubleheader against North Alabama

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) beach volleyball team split its doubleheader against North Alabama Thursday afternoon to start ASUN conference play.

In the first match of the day, juniors Ginny Gerig and Cori Theiss gave the Governors their first points of the afternoon in the No. 2 pairing after they defeated North Alabama’s Ashytn Kapovich and Joise Maldonado in straight sets, 21-17, 21-13.

American Heart Association reports Physically active Women have significantly decreased risk of Heart Disease

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – American Heart Association says women who spent less of their day in sedentary behaviors—sitting or reclining while awake—had a significantly decreased risk of heart disease, but there has been an increase in the incidence of younger women having acute heart attacks in the U.S., according to two studies in a special Go Red for Women issue of the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation, published in February, American Heart Month.

This is the third annual issue of the journal dedicated to research about women and cardiovascular health.

Tennessee Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick relieved

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer announced Wednesday that Lady Vols basketball coach Holly Warlick has been relieved of her duties.

“Holly and I met this afternoon, and I informed her of the decision to change leadership within the program,” Fulmer said. “Holly has dedicated most of her adult life to the University of Tennessee and the Lady Vols program. She loves Tennessee, and Tennessee needs to always love her back. She was front and center as this program developed into the model for women’s intercollegiate excellence.
