Mark Riggins named acting General Manager at Clarksville Gas and Water

Mark Riggins City of Clarksville career includes several leadership roles at utility

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Mark Riggins, a 23-year veteran of the City workforce, has been named acting General Manager of the Clarksville Gas and Water Department.

“I have tasked Mark with leading the department for a few months, addressing some of the lingering issues within the department and charting a course of action for the near term,” Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said. “I have complete faith and trust in Mark and his ability to address customer and employee concerns.”

Riggins began his City career as a construction worker with the Street Department for a year, then transferred to Gas and Water, where he’s held various positions, including backhoe operator, crew chief, project administrator, engineering manager and assistant gas manager.

Riggins also served on the Montgomery County Commission for six years, including time on the budget committee, joint land acquisition committee and board of zoning appeals.

“I am very appreciative of the mayor’s confidence in me to fulfill the duties of this position as long as he desires,” Riggins said. “I am humbled by the support already shown by fellow employees, elected officials, business partners, and members of our community. Gas & Water will strive to be the best department we can be by serving our citizens with the utmost kindness and respect they deserve. Glory be to God for giving me this opportunity to serve Him through serving my fellow employees and my community.”

Former Gas and Water General Manager Pat Hickey resigned from the position April 4th, 2019.

“We had asked for some changes in operations at Gas & Water,” Pitts said at the time. “We got to a point where we had ‘irreconcilable differences’ of opinions about those changes, so I accepted Pat’s decision to resign and move on.”

Clarksville Gas & Water is one of the largest municipal utilities in Tennessee. Clarksville Gas serves more than 26,000 natural gas customers in five area counties; Montgomery County, Cheatham County and Robertson County in Tennessee, Christian County and Todd County in Kentucky, and at Fort Campbell. Clarksville Water, a treatment plant and distribution system, serves approximately 150,000 people. Clarksville Wastewater System serves approximately 120,000 people.
