Clarksville Parks and Recreation creates summer camps, programs for youths

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has lined up a full schedule of camps and programs for youths of all ages for this summer. Parents are reminded that registration numbers are limited for all camps, so register early.

Registration is available online at www.CityofClarksville.com/ParksRec or in person at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office, recreation centers and pools.

Summer Youth Program

The Summer Youth Program is a fun and rewarding summer camp experience offered for children 6-15. This free program is offered weekly, Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm, June 3rd-July 12th. Fifteen locations around Clarksville are used, including school gymnasiums, City recreation centers, and Housing Authority sites.

Please note that each site is designated for a specific age group. Daily activities at each site are age specific and include games and sports, arts and crafts, visits to City pools, and other enrichment activities.

Pre-registration is required.

Summer Playhouse

The Roxy Regional Theatre hosts a fun six-week theater workshop sponsored by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department from 12:30pm to 2:00pm (youths 9-12) and 2:00pm-3:30pm (youths 13-18), Monday-Thursday, June 3rd to July 11th at the Roxy Theatre. Youth will learn basic acting techniques, improvisational skills and stage movement, culminating in a free performance for family and friends.

The fee is $50.00. Pre-registration is required.

Civil War Day Camp

Youths 10-13 are invited to learn about the Civil War period in Middle Tennessee from historical interpreters at Fort Defiance. Activities will include making hardtack, practicing soldiering drills, exploring local history and learning Civil War era games and dances. The camp is from 8:00am to noon Wednesday-Friday, June 12th-14th at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, 120 Duncan Street.

The fee is $30.00. Pre-registration is required.

 

Summer Tennis Instruction

Youths 6-15 can learn the basics of tennis with these tennis lessons at Swan Lake Tennis Complex, 2002 Sanders Road, June 3rd to July 11th.

The fee is $50.00. Pre-registration is required.

  • Ages 6-8: Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00am-9:00am
  • Ages 9-10: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00am-10:00am
  • Ages 11-12: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00am-9:30am
  • Ages 13-15: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am-11:00am

Summer Tumbling Day Camp

Campers 10-15 can learn to roll, flip and turn from 9:00am-11:30am Monday-Thursday, June 17th-20th, July 8th-11th, or July 15th-18th at American Twisters Tumbling, 438 Kelly Lane.

The fee is $40.00. Pre-registration is required.

Summer Archery Camp

Youths 10-15 can learn the basic fundamentals of archery from 9:00am to 11:00am (beginner) or 11:00am to 1:00pm (advanced) June 24th-28th at Billy Dunlop Park, 1930 East Boyscout Road. Participants will practice shooting techniques and learn safety rules and different bow types.

The fee is $20.00. Pre-registration is required.

 

Seal Team Scuba Camp

Clarksville Parks and Recreation has partnered with Waterdogs Scuba to offer a new camp designed for young divers. Youths 8-12, will learn the basics of diving and scuba skills while completing action-packed Aqua Missions. Camp is from 12:00pm-4:00pm at Bel-Aire Pool, 124 Marie Drive. Choose from the following sessions: June 11th-13th, June 25th-27th, July 16th-18th, or July 23rd-25th.

The fee is $299.00. Pre-registration is required.
