APSU Baseball’s Parker Phillips selected to Collegiate Baseball All-America Teams

APSU BaseballTucson, AZ –  Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball outfielder Parker Phillips became the first Govs to earn All-America honors since 2013 with his selection to the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-America baseball teams, powered by Diamond, Thursday.

Phillips, who was a second-team selection as an outfielder, becomes the seventh Governors baseball player to receive All-America recognition in the program’s Division I era.

The Collegiate Baseball All-America Teams are the first awards announced after the end of each season.

The national honor follows Phillips’ earning his first First-Team All-OVC honor this season and following it with OVC All-Tournament recognition.

The redshirt junior ended the Govs’ 2019 campaign leading the OVC with 25 home runs and a .732 slugging percentage and tied for the league lead with 64 RBI. Among Division I players, prior to the NCAA Tournament’s start this week, Phillips ranked second in home runs, 12th in slugging percentage and 24th in RBI.

Phillips, from Collierville Tennessee, broke both the Govs single-season and career home run marks during the 2019 season. His 25 home runs this season easily outpaced the previous record of 19 home runs which he tied in 2018. Phillips also put the career home run mark behind him, ending the season with 56 homers. His home run totals from 2018 and 2019 alone would have set the Governors career mark and he is now the only Govs hitter to record three 10-homer seasons during their career.

That prodigious home run total also has helped Phillips move atop the Governors career slugging percentage leaderboard with a career .674 slugging mark. He slugged .732 in 2019, the fourth-best single-season slugging percentage tally in program history.
