Montgomery County Animal Care and Control, Fort Campbell sign Intergovernmental Support Agreement

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Today, June 6th, 2019, the United States Army and Montgomery County Government signed an Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA) at the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters rotunda, Fort Campbell, KY at 10:30am.

Under the IGSA, Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) will take over operation of Fort Campbell’s Stray Animal Program.

The Montgomery County Commission unanimously approved the merging of the services at the May 13th, 2019 formal commission meeting after adjustments were made to the proposal.

Implementation of the IGSA will result in a 30% cost reduction of approximately per year to Fort Campbell and will provide MCACC with payment for services, additional personnel as well as vehicles and supplies for Fort Campbell.

“Thanks to the whole team at Fort Campbell and Montgomery County. We can’t do this without a great partnership and this really helps solidify the bonds we have with the overall team,” said Fort Campbell Garrison Commander Colonel Joseph Kuchan.

“We’ve always said that we’ve had great support from Montgomery County. I’m super excited about this. It’s a great day for Fort Campbell and Montgomery County,” Colonel Kuchan stated.

“This agreement is a win-win for the Fort Campbell and Montgomery County. I appreciate the Fort Campbell team and our staff at Animal Care and Control rolling up their sleeves and working together to get this done. This agreement opens the door to future partnerships with Fort Campbell and the surrounding communities,” said Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett.

“We view this as a tremendous opportunity to service not only our Montgomery County Families but our Fort Campbell Families as well. We are humbled by the opportunity to serve the Fort Campbell Community and we look forward to working with Fort Campbell staff and continuing the great service they have received,” said MCACC Director David Kaske.

Montgomery County Animal Control Officers will be dispatched to humanely impound all domestic animals observed as strays. MCACC will transport all live captured animals to the MCACC facility or the Fort Campbell Stray Animal Impound Facility (SAIF). Reclaimed animals that reside on Fort Campbell property must meet the requirements of the Fort Campbell Regulation 40-7 before returning to on-post housing.
