Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds pitcher Seth Maness was solid on the mound Friday night and Carlos Tocci made two spectacular diving catches to help the club to a 3-2 win over the Las Vegas Aviators in front of a sellout crowd of 11,108 at First Tennessee Park.
Maness limited the prolific Las Vegas offense to just one run in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits and struck out a pair. Maness got a no-decision, but the Sounds improved to 7-2 in games he has started.
Las Vegas got on the board first with three of the six hits coming in the third inning.
Sheldon Neuse, Corban Joseph and Jonah Heim collected hits, and Heim’s RBI double gave the Aviators a 1-0 lead.
Nashville’s first rally of the night was in the fifth inning when Tyler Pill, Carlos Tocci and Jett Bandy reached safely in three straight at-bats. With Pill at second and Tocci at first, Bandy ripped a double down the left field line to score both runners to give the Sounds a 3-2 lead.
Chris Herrmann evened the game at 2-2 with a solo homer to lead off the top of the seventh.
The Sounds rallied again in their half of the inning. Tocci and Bandy were at the center of it with a single and hit-by-pitch. Bandy’s hit-by-pitch came back to hurt Las Vegas when he came around to score from second on Zack Granite’s RBI single.
Reliever Reed Garrett was summoned for the eighth and worked around a one-out single by Jorge Mateo to put up a zero. With two outs and Mateo at second base, Nick Martini hit a sinking line drive to center field that was caught by a diving Tocci in shallow center.
David Carpenter got the ball in the ninth and made quick work of the Aviators. The right-hander struck out the side to send the Sounds to their second consecutive series win.

With tonight’s 3-2 win, the Sounds improved to 27-40 on the season.
