Austin Peay State University to redesign floor at Dunn Center

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) patrons will be greeted by a brand-new court redesign in the Dunn Center during the 2019-20 season, with renovations set to begin this week in the 44-year old facility.

As the brainchild of Austin Peay Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison, the new design was conceived by the athletics creative team. The project is expected to be completed before the Austin Peay volleyball program returns ahead of the 2019 season.

The contemporary design integrates a commingling of red, white, black and gray around the court, with Dave Loos Court and the legendary Austin Peay State University head coach’s signature prominently displayed facing the student section. Also facing the student-section is an updated, on-brand logo imposed inside a red “state of Tennessee” outline.

The lane on each end of the court will be black, with the Ohio Valley Conference logo facing the free-throw line. Austin Peay State University’s official Twitter account handle (@LetsGoPeay) will be superimposed just over the out-of-bounds line by each bench, offering maximum visibility during broadcasts.

This will be the first full-court sand-down since this court was laid down in the Dunn Center; the original floor was in place until 2012, when the old court was replaced by the current PermaFlex flooring system. Sports Floors Inc., which installed the court during the 2012 redesign, is once again tasked with bringing Austin Peay’s vision to life on the Dunn Center surface.

“It is time to brighten the Dunn and present a more modern look to Stacheville and the country,” Harrison said. “Dave Aaron Arena is one of the legendary venues in the OVC; however our look had become outdated.”

“This new look proudly and boldly proclaims our location, our athletics logo, our conference and our school colors. In addition to the new court design, the state-of-the art lighting enhancements, new seating on the third level, and the return of the VIPeay Hoops premium area and courtside seating will provide our fans with a much improved game day experience,” stated Harrison.

The court redesign is among several features being tweaked in and around the Dunn Center ahead of the 2019-20 academic year. Earlier this month, a long-awaited lighting project commenced, replacing the outdated fluorescent lighting with a more dynamic, energy-efficient LED system.

While this lighting update was taking place, a new bank of stands were purchased to replace a dilapidated set on the third floor on the west side of the building and supplement seating, adding an additional 818 seats.
